(More customer reviews)I've been looking for various replacement items for my car and after giving amazon my make and model to search easier I noticed the GREEN items category. I think that is awesome! Anyway, these were at the top of that list and what do you know new headlights were also on mine :) I'm pretty sure the lights on my car were still the original ones (fairly impressive on a 15 year old car) and they just weren't enough light anymore if I wasn't driving a well lit street.
These were easy to install, just like the ones I was replacing. No defects as far as I can tell and no trouble with them at all. They are not the brightest headlights out there but I'm not trying to blind all the other drivers so it's fine. MUCH brighter than my old lights, I'm very satisfied with them.

(More customer reviews)After 8 years, one of the original headlight bulbs in our Honda Odyssey burned out. I discovered that Sylvania had these really cool replacement bulbs that were brighter and whiter than the OEM ones. Not wanting a yellow (oem bulb) and a (new) bright white one, I replaced both bulbs with the Sylvania type, the 9003/HB2 "High Performance Lighting". It cost about $[...] for two. Everything was fine for about 7 months until one of them burned out. I thought that was weird, so I bought a new one, installed it, then looked for the warranty statement on the replacement bulb package. There is none. I wrote to the customer service at www.sylvania.com/auto, expecting them to be really embarrassed at the short life. They weren't. Here's the important part of their reply:
"The life of any halogen bulb varies based on vehicle type, vehicle voltage, amount of time the bulb is on, road conditions, proper installation, and correct application. The average life of SilverStar® headlights are approximately one year. If the bulbs do not meet your expectations, we will replace them within a year of purchase when obtained through an authorized US retailer.
With our SYLVANIA SilverStar® products, the primary goal is to offer the brightest, whitest light. Research has shown SilverStar® headlights improve driver visibility and reaction time. However, since our SilverStar® headlights are up to 35% brighter and our SilverStar® ULTRA headlights are up to 50% brighter than standard halogen, they may have a shorter life span compared to our other products.
We offer a wide variety of products to satisfy customer needs including brightness, durability, color options and increased visibility. We recommend evaluating your lighting annually as part of your regular maintenance."They then included instructions for replacing the burned out bulb - a ONE TIME courtesy. That's RIGHT, WHEN it happens again, I'm out of luck as evidenced by this closing:
"If you experience similar performance with the replacement product please contact us again so that we can make an alternate lighting recommendation for your vehicle."
So, to summarize:
1. Silverstar bulbs aren't engineered to last. Much like a meteor, they're designed to be very bright and burn out quickly. But, meteor shows are free and Sylvania Silverstar bulbs cost $[...] a pair.
2. The website lists the performance rating as 200 hours. Yes, for an AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCT. If you use your lights ONE HOUR a DAY, these aren't designed to last even a YEAR.
3. Sylvania gives NO CLUE on the packaging that you're signing up for a once a year replacement schedule at $[...] when you start down this road.
4. Sylvania will grace you with ONE replacement under warranty if it fails before a year is up, but that's it. After the first failure, you're out of luck.
This is a TERRIBLE PRODUCT only because I'm not interested in having headlights burn out while I'm traveling or at other random times at one year intervals. Especially when it's a product that's a little tough to replace (you can't get any finger oils or other oils/dirt on the bulb during installation or it will kill it prematurely - this is standard for any halogen or xenon bulb gas product). OEM products last 7-10 YEARS or more, but even 5 years on this product would be acceptable. 1 year or LESS is NOT for this type of product, and Sylvania is scamming people for doing this.
This is a SHAMEFUL product that Sylvania should be embarrassed to offer for sale. NO one should buy it - EVER. I would give it 0 stars if I was allowed to.

(More customer reviews)The bulb came in the package you see in the listing but the package was crumpled and the grey coating on the end of the bulb was worn off onto the inside plastic package in two spots. bulb works and I guess I'll keep it cause of hassle factor, sure hope its not blinding oncoming traffic (I have no idea what the effect of the worn spots is). This item should not be sold as new given the condition of the packaging.

(More customer reviews)I picked these up in Canada but it looks like they are now available in the US from Amazon. I was a bit skeptical because I have been trying to find a replacement bulb that replicates or comes close to HID Xenon for my '04 Touareg (I neglected to tick that option box when I bought it). Finally after trying three different brands and styles I have found the winner. I compared the HID lighting in my Audi to the Nighthawk Platinum and one would be hard pressed to tell the difference. It's also very noticeable in nighttime driving, I can see much better on the back country roads and it has given me more confidence when I do have to be out in the dark. A great product that's worth the $.
Just keep in mind that when it comes to halogen bulbs the brighter they are, the hotter they burn and the quicker they burn out. If you have daytime running lights that utilize your headlamps don't expect to get much more than a year out of these (or any similar product such as the Silverstar). If you're looking for longevity then stick with a much dimmer long life bulb.

(More customer reviews)i have the bulbs installed in a 2005 maxima 3.5sl. they replaced the oem bulbs (sylvania) because one of them failed to illuminate which lasted 6 years and 1 day, typical bulbs last 5 years. i would recommend using these bulbs especially if you have a hard to reach or in my case have to disassemble the front end to replace. this bulb will also be much brighter than the blue or purple bulbs on the market and more reliable as well. make sure not to touch the glass but if you do touch the glass do not clean the glass as the coating could get damaged. always replace these bulbs in pairs not only will it look hideous if you do not but they tend to fail around the same time.
the packaging from amazon could have been better and may have caused the damage to the manufacturers packaging with plastic prongs that broke in the packaging causing one of the HIDs to be loose in the package. no damage was caused to the product.

(More customer reviews)Replacing D1S bulbs these days reminds me of what it was like to get disk brakes repaired 30 years ago: it's newer technology, many folks have no experience yet, thus there is fear. We later found disk brakes to be simpler to repair than shoe brakes, and the rest is history. The point is, the built-in HID headlight system is so complex that when a bulb blows, the failure can send all sorts of mortifying messages to the information display, or the dashboard, making you think you have to go to the dealer and spend five hundred dollars getting your HID system reconfigured, or some other such idiocy. The only trick at all to replacing these bulbs is the matching of the color. HID bulbs come in colors rated 4100º, which is somewhat yellowish, all the way up to about 16,000º, which is very purple, and not good at all for normal driving purposes. The most normal of the choices seems to be about 4,300º, which is almost yellow, to about 6,000º, which is what they call "bright white." Probably the best thing to do is to just replace two bulbs at a time. It also seems the color shifts as the bulbs age, making it a little tougher to match colors based on a number. These bulbs seem to be in the 4100º area. I'm not sure, and this seller didn't indicate in his item description what the color temperature is. This bulb does not match my other bulb at all, so I may end up buying a second one just so the car looks normal. The neighborhood retailers all want about a hundred and thirty dollars for D1S bulbs, apiece, so even with this additional purchase, I'm still ahead. Installation took a few minutes. I opened a protective cover on the back of the headlight assembly. This is about 4.5 inches in diameter, and rotates a few degrees to unlock, then just pulls out and gets set aside. Inside, there is a square housing, which is the base of the bulb, held in place by a spring clip. Unlatch this, back out the bulb, disconnect the wire connector from the bulb, and put the old bulb out of the way. Then move the new bulb partially into the assembly. Be very careful not to get any finger oil on the glass. Reattach the wire and slide it home. Latch the spring clip back into place, put the lid back on, and you are done. If you really want to feel good, call a Mercedes dealer and ask how much to replace an HID bulb. Then figure what you just saved yourself. You should then be able to justify going out for a very nice burger and a few beers to use up the hours you just didn't waste sitting in a waiting room to get skinned. I put mine in a few hours ago. I have no idea how long it will last, or if my car will burn to the ground the next time I turn on the lights. But right now, I know I saved about $244.00 at the SAAB thief, and I'm spending the saved time eating a nice lasagna with my wife.

I installed a set in my 2002 Honda CRV. One burned out in about 4 months and I don't have running lights. A call to Sylvania customer service gave a offer to send a new set if I returned the burnt out bulb with the sales reciept. OK thats nice, 2 for 1. Very generious,however the second set did not last any longer. Another call to C.S. This time the rep. was more helpfull or should I say truthful. I was informed that some makes of vechiles such as Honda and BMW, as well as other forgien makes run as high as 15 volts to the headlights causing premature failure of the Silver Star and Silver Star Ultra bulbs. Therefore Sylvania does not recomend them for these cars. Now they tell me.
I have had a set in my Chrysler T&C van for over 2 years. No problem.
Check with your dealer if your car is not US and save yourself money and aggravation.

(More customer reviews)These headlights are definately worth the money. I replaced my low beams with the new bulbs. I can now see much better and farther than before. They were relatively easy to install. I was having problems driving at night and these bulbs have definately made a difference. The only down side was the time it took to get them. I opted for budget free shipping and they must have some special slow boat to China deal with the Post Office. It took forever to get them and they were only two states away. I ship a lot on eBay First Class which these easily could have gone and they get there in one or two days. I believe it took eight days to get these bulbs. They were packaged very good. My advice is to pay the extra for shipping if you want them in a reasonable time.

(More customer reviews)I am using these bulbs in our 2003 Honda Odyssey. While they do NOT last as long as OEM, I have found that the light they put out is much more suitable for night-time driving. They are MUCH better than the "Sylvania SilverStar" bulbs, which will only last around 6 months. I've consistently gotten at least a year or so from the bulbs, and find that the more-frequent replacement is worth the improved lighting.
That said, save yourself a few bucks and buy the 2-pack. It's only like $5 more, which makes the replacement much more economical.
I'm giving it 4-stars, mainly because I like the light these put out. The price is OK, and they could last longer, which knocks them down a bit.

(More customer reviews)I have made myself become quite the expert on this replacement bulb issue over the last ten years. Being very active on the VW forums, I initially heard about the benefits of the Osram and Phillips bulbs, according to the body politic, the only ones that truly give more white light than the stockers. Many other aftermarket bulbs out there claim more light, but instead you just get some bluish light that may earn you some unwanted attention by Trooper Tommy, and possibly could fail inspection if blue enough. I have now replaced my bulbs in the last three Passats I have owned with the Phillips X-Treme Power H7's. Simply put, they rock. Very bright, very white, and not very expensive. My favorite part of the increased lighting with these bulbs is the much improved side-light they throw...hard to quantify, but true nonetheless. A noticeable difference for when you see that lurking deer alongside your car some night.
In my research some years ago, I found an article by a lighting engineer who quite diligently and scientifically compared many aftermarket bulbs, including the leading replacements, the Osram and the Phillips. He included much hard data, and found that most offered NO more light than stock bulbs, (Sylvania) and some were even worse, except for the two mentioned above. As you will see upon receipt, the X-Treme Power bulbs even LOOK beefier than the stock bulbs. As was mentioned by on other reviewer, however, these Phillips bulbs do NOT last as long as stock bulbs, but that's the price you pay for having the superior lighting that will benefit every dark night's foray away from home. Mine have averaged 2 years of life.
Make sure to search around for a source. Try the find.com or buy.com. Powerbulbs in the UK was the only carrier a few years ago, and had the best price for around 19 BPS, equating to about $25, but now they are $44 on that site and Amazon has them for cheaper. After ordering a new set a couple nights ago, I found that there is currently a $10 rebate being offered by Phillips, a sure benefit in the end. You can probably replace them yourself, too. Look on Youtube for a video on how to replace them on your vehicle. We all need to save our bucks for craft beer, eh? Peace - pdunay@verizon.net

Due to the sharp cutoff characteristics of the lens assembly of my car, I can't say that the light beam being thrown is significantly farther. The light is definitely brighter and whiter in color within the beam area making it easier to see at night. I did not try the more exotic brighter bulbs available because of reading reports that their extra high current requirements might overtax a car's wiring causing insulation to melt. There was also a 2-for-1 special pricing when I purchased this set of bulbs that made it an extra good buy.
