(More customer reviews)The Wagner D2S Xenon headlamp is actually made by and badged Philips, which is the OEM lamp supplier for BMWs and many other European car brands. The OEM Philips xenons in my 2001 BMW X5 lasted over 10 years as I expect these to do as well. Most NAPA stores carry the Wagner lamp and actually sell it for $10 less than the Amazon price. Of course, if a NAPA store is not convenient to your location, Amazon is only slightly more expensive.
My BMW service advisor told me to replace both lamps after the first one failed in order to have the same light output on the left and the right sides. Xenons do dim somewhat over yeras of use and a matched pair not only looks better, but is moderately brighter than a new one on one side and an old one on the other. On my X5 it was necessary to remove three Torx 15 screws holding the lamp cover on the rear of the headlight assembly in order to access the lamp. Once the housing is pulled back, the high voltage cable comes off with a quarter twist as does the locking ring holding the lamp in place. It took me less than 15 minutes to change each one.
I also had a mobile serviceman come to my house to polish the X5's two front headlight assemblies which had become quite hazey over the years. It cost about $125, but both of them look and feel brand new. With the new Xenon lamps installed, the headlights are literally back to new condition even though the car has almost 170K miles on it.

(More customer reviews)The bulb came in the package you see in the listing but the package was crumpled and the grey coating on the end of the bulb was worn off onto the inside plastic package in two spots. bulb works and I guess I'll keep it cause of hassle factor, sure hope its not blinding oncoming traffic (I have no idea what the effect of the worn spots is). This item should not be sold as new given the condition of the packaging.

(More customer reviews)I picked these up in Canada but it looks like they are now available in the US from Amazon. I was a bit skeptical because I have been trying to find a replacement bulb that replicates or comes close to HID Xenon for my '04 Touareg (I neglected to tick that option box when I bought it). Finally after trying three different brands and styles I have found the winner. I compared the HID lighting in my Audi to the Nighthawk Platinum and one would be hard pressed to tell the difference. It's also very noticeable in nighttime driving, I can see much better on the back country roads and it has given me more confidence when I do have to be out in the dark. A great product that's worth the $.
Just keep in mind that when it comes to halogen bulbs the brighter they are, the hotter they burn and the quicker they burn out. If you have daytime running lights that utilize your headlamps don't expect to get much more than a year out of these (or any similar product such as the Silverstar). If you're looking for longevity then stick with a much dimmer long life bulb.

I installed a set in my 2002 Honda CRV. One burned out in about 4 months and I don't have running lights. A call to Sylvania customer service gave a offer to send a new set if I returned the burnt out bulb with the sales reciept. OK thats nice, 2 for 1. Very generious,however the second set did not last any longer. Another call to C.S. This time the rep. was more helpfull or should I say truthful. I was informed that some makes of vechiles such as Honda and BMW, as well as other forgien makes run as high as 15 volts to the headlights causing premature failure of the Silver Star and Silver Star Ultra bulbs. Therefore Sylvania does not recomend them for these cars. Now they tell me.
I have had a set in my Chrysler T&C van for over 2 years. No problem.
Check with your dealer if your car is not US and save yourself money and aggravation.
