Pulstar BE-1 Pulse Plug, Pack of 2 Review

Pulstar BE-1 Pulse Plug, Pack of 2
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Over the years I have seen many claims to increase power or milage by inserting something into the ignition system. Usually I am resistant to them. But, reading about the Pulstar plugs I reasoned there just might be something to their claim. After all, the video at their web site illustrates a far hotter, and better spark.
My vehicle is a Jeep Wrangler, with an in-line 6 cylinder engine. At 500 miles I replaced the factory NGKs with Bosch +4. I keep a detailed milage log, out of habit. At 91,000 miles I decided to change the Bosch as I noticed my usually miserable highway mpg (19.2) had decreased to really miserable mpg (17.8).
Amazon is an excellent resource for many items I buy. Plus, I use Prime, so shipping is usually one cost for the entire year. Perusing through Amazon I stumbled upon the Pulse Plug.
Years ago, when there existed coils and distributors, a similar product claimed similar results. Insert this neat little device on the line from the coil to the distributor and said device would ramp up the voltage thus delivering a much hotter spark at the spark plug which will greatly improve your engines performance and your miles to the gallon of fuel. I bought one, and found the claim false.
Yet, the Pulse claims interested me. I bought 3 packs of 2 Pulse plugs. Math will disclose the total cost of my thoughts.
Now when your engine requires fresh spark plugs, any brand (properly matched to your engine) will deliver better performance and better mpg. Why else would you change your plugs?
So I was expecting some improvements in the engine, and increased mpg, from a fresh set of spark plugs. But, I was expecting more from the Pulse Plug. The Pulse plugs arrived and I had my mechanic install them.
One plug was defective and required replacement. Rather than go through Pulse, I returned it to Amazon. Amazon has a great customer service attitude, and easy return policy. (No, I do not work for nor do I have any financial consideration from Amazon). The new Pulse plug arrived promptly.
With a full set of 6 Pulse plugs in, and firing, I took a trip to see if my engine's performance changed.
Yes, my mpg was 19.8, the best I have recorded since before the engine had 20,000 miles on it. There seemed to be an improvement. The engine ran smoothly. There was a static hiss on the radio and CDs that was not there before.
Then, the ECU went out. I do not blame the Pulse plugs for this, but, the mechanic was not as sure.
Prior to replacing the ECU, the mechanic replaced the Pulse plugs on the chance that they were the problem. A fresh set of Bosch +4s went in. No change, so in went a new ECU ($600). The problem resolved.
The mechanic showed me the Pulse plugs. The ends were pitted, the porcelain protecting the electrodes were eroding, and the plug looked worse than the Bosch I had removed with 90,000 miles on them. The mechanic reasoned that the Pulse plugs were either not the correct ones for my engine, or sparked so hot that they would not last very long.
New ECU and fresh Bosch plugs in, I went on the same road trip. Milage was 20.1, engine ran smooth. Better milage with cheaper plugs. No noticeable change in performance between the Pulse plugs and fresh Bosch.
In the end the Pulse plugs delivered nothing extra. So, to answer the real question "is it worth it", from my perspective, no. Their high cost; lack of any mpg increase over cheaper plugs; no discernible power increase provided no reason to spend as much for the Pulse plugs as three sets of the Bosch.
In the end I found that for the same cost, a set of Bosch plugs and a longer visit at my local brew pub, suited my needs better.

The Technology: Pulse plugs incorporate a pulse circuit, which stores incoming electrical energy from the ignition system and releases the stored energy in a powerful pulse of power. Instead of 50 watts of peak power typical of all spark plugs, pulse plugs deliver up to 10 times more peak power. It takes electrical power to light fuel. The more power (watts) the better.Fuel Economy: Pulstar pulse plugs look and fit like spark plugs, but Pulstar incorporates an internal capacitor that delivers a more powerful spark than a spark plug which reduces cycle-to-cycle variation increasing fuel economy and reducing associated greenhouse gases. Horse Power: Pulse plugs improve the performance of your vehicle as well as the performance of all aftermarket performance products. Pulse plugs simply ignite fuel better and should be the very first step in improving your engine's performance.Torque: Increase towing capacity at it's source by replacing your spark plugs with Pulstar pulse plugs. You can actually improve low-end torque and towing capacity simply by installing Pulstar in your vehicle. This is because of the unique way Pulstar ignites fuel and generates additional cylinder pressure.

this blade's design is ok. supposedly it's the longest lasting all-season wiper blade. from my experience, I bought the 18in and 26in, and its smooth and quiet. The negative draw back: It smears at some portions. The contact to the windshield is not uniform.

Switching to these plugs from the stock BMW plugs (nee NGK) markedly improved the smoothness of my Mini Cooper S under acceleration. One review I read actually got improved dyno numbers from switching to these plugs, but to my seat-of-the-pants evaluation, the smoothness across the board is the most noticeable change.
They're bit pricey, though, especially considering that I will likely switch to their cooler plug (IK22 vs these IK20's) when I install my 15% supercharger pulley upgrade later this year.

All I needed was the blade itself, two actually. What I got instead was one single carrier with one blade. I used to by the blade refills for a couple dollars a pair, anywhere, everywhere. now, you can't find a pair of refills to save your life. Instead you have to buy an un-needed carrier to get a single blade. WTF?

I bought these to replace old wiper blades on my Sportstrac. They installed easily. About two weeks after they installed the end of one of the blades popped away from the windshield causing it to miss about a 6" path. I was able to lift the blade and drop it back onto the windshield which caused it to form to the windshield again. A few days later it happened again while I was driving. I've also driven with these blades in subfreezing temperatures and they easily build up with ice causing them to be completely ineffective. During one 300+ mile trip I had to stop three times to break off the buildup of ice. I've never had any of these issues with other wiper blades. I wont buy them again.

NGK (7969) BKR6EKUB Multi-Ground Spark Plug, Pack of 1 Review

NGK (7969) BKR6EKUB Multi-Ground Spark Plug, Pack of 1
Average Reviews:

I had used the Bosch Platinum 4, which were supposed to be better, but I was having misfire problems due to a coil pack on the Passat V6 2000 that went bad (which was less than 2 years old).
- Upon inspection some of the Bosch core were partially reduced, some not. Durability is not as good as expected as they are supposed to last more than 2 years. Forum reports were saying that the Bosch Platinum were also misfiring even when you did not feel it. They may have put more load onto the coil pack and possibly responsible for the problem with the coil pack.
- With the NGK, the car feels smoother at low RPM. The idle is smoother and the MPG went up. I have been able to exceed 30mpg on trips where I never did. With only 2 prongs and copper core, they are supposed to be less performing, but they give me the feeling that I have more power with acceleration. Responsiveness is less hesitant. It does not stutter like with the Bosch. These are the OEM for my car and I will simply stick them as the MPG is better, as well as the car drivebility.

Multi-ground electrodes improve ignition capabilities and are less sensitive to increased voltage requirements due to gap growth. Designed to specific manufacturer ignition requirements in either supplementary gap, intermittent discharge, or semi-surface discharge, all for various firing tip self cleaning abilities. Multi-ground plugs maintain all features of NGK's traditional plugs including corrugated ribs, pure alumina silicate ceramic insulator for greater strength and better heat transfer, copper core and triple interior seal.

Trico 14-190 Innovision Beam Wiper Blade - 19" Review

Trico 14-190 Innovision Beam Wiper Blade - 19

I have purchased at least six of these wipers in different sizes. All have failed within a month of use. There is a defect in the design. They work excellently when new. Then the glue fails that attaches the rubber wiper to the blade. The attachment depends entirely on the bond of the glue. There is nothing else keeping the rubber wiper attached to the metal blade. Bosch has a similar item but their wiper fits into a groove on the blade. I bought those. So far so good but it is really too early to tell. This flexible blade type of wiper blade works great. Unfortunately, the Innovision blade promises much more than it can deliver. Save your money.

I fitted this plugs into a Chevrolet Spark a while ago, haven't caused me trouble at all. Thought i had to adjust the gap of the plugs ( since usually new ones are a bit separated), starting the engine became faster and warming too, felt the acceleration somewhat stronger, fuel economy is a bit higher than OEM ones ( think this plugs might work better into bigger engines) but as I told you already they are doing great no foul ones, and burning equally.

This plug comes with a UNLIMITED mileage and 5 year warranty. Platinum is on the tip and the bottom and you get plat to plat firing. Sure many will say copper is a better conduit but Platinum works very well and in no way gives less of a spark.
These plugs you can put in and rest assured you can get 100,000 easy if not well over many more miles. Most people trade their cars in before they drive 100,000 miles miles, this plug will be all you need. I have been using Auto Lites for years and years and NEVER a bad plug, not once. I drive for a living and spend 80,000 miles a year on the road in my car. I have tried other brands but always come back to Auto Lite (except for my Corolla which requires a twinn plug or better, I use E3 in that).
You can't go wrong with Auto Lite Double Platinum! Even reg platinum is a very good plug too, you'll get a good 70,000 miles on them without any problems. Years ago I started off with their copper plugs, very good and in-expensive plug, you get a good 40,000 miles on those.

Bosch 69430 Original Equipment Replacement Electric Fuel Pump Review

Bosch 69430 Original Equipment Replacement Electric Fuel Pump
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The pump no longer appears as it does in the picture. I have a previous version that was exactly as pictured. The new one is smaller, features crimps all around the top, and comes with an accordion type of plastic sleeve to allow it to fit in applications where the previous pump fit perfectly.
In my application, an '81 DeLorean, I wrapped the accordion sleeve with the wrist half of a nitrile glove to provide a vapor barrier, as the new design would allow air and fluid to slosh up to the contacts area if I used it with the plastic sleeve alone. The old (pictured) design was much easier to install, and provided more peace of mind regarding the security of the installation.
Were it not for the Bosch box marked with the part number, and other mentions of a new design I've read online, I would have thought I received the wrong part. As it stands, it is not an optimal replacement design, but it works, and it has pumped fuel perfectly as expected in the few days I've been running it since installation. For function, it earns stars; for fit and accuracy, it loses stars, hence my rating of 3.

Bosch 426A ICON Wiper Blade - 26" Review

Bosch 426A ICON Wiper Blade - 26
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For more than 30 years, I've searched high and low for the perfect wiper blade. Being a little tiny bit obsessive about my car, one of the things I can NOT tolerate is a chattering, noisy, smeary, streaky wiper blade. Driving in the rain is hard enough without feeling like you're trying to look through a wax-paper windshield.
In the past, I'd put new wiper blades on my car two or three times a year and sometimes more, just to make sure I never had to deal with wiper smear or worse, wiper chatter. That sound is like fingernails on a blackboard to me!!
I'd also clean the rubber edge several times between blade changes, to keep the leading edge clean and free from debris and gooey tree gunk and junk. Due to my desire to keep the finest quality blades on the car, I'd only buy authentic Toyota blades for my 2003 Camry and then one day...
An associate at the local Toyota dealer talked me into buying the rubber inserts for the blades, rather than the whole blade assembly. For 20 minutes, I waited and watched as she fiddled around trying desperately to get the inserts into the arm assembly. Two days later (and 10 minutes of use later), while driving in a light rain storm, the whole thing came apart in pieces, scratching my windshield in the process. It was a Sunday afternoon (dealer was closed), so I drove directly to the auto parts store and told them I wanted the most expensive wiper-blade they sold. They took me to the Bosch Icon and said, "these are the best, but they're pricey."
I couldn't be more pleased with the quality and performance of this product. The two blades I bought for Cammie cost less than $50 which isn't THAT much contrasted against the frustration of not being able to see clearly through the windshield when it rains.
April 2008 UPDATE: I am on my second pair of Bosch Icons and I'm saddened to say that I am no longer "raving" about these things. While they're just swell for the first 60 days, they deteriorate quickly after that and become streaky and smeary. When I was buying wiper blades for my daughter's car, I asked the auto parts guy about the Bosch Icon. He replied, "I'm not that impressed with them either. They don't last long."

How hard are these blades to install? Just like every other wiper blade you've ever put on, I guess if you've never done it before it's a problem.
Bottom line is these work great, better than anything else I tried. I put in my calendar a ping to change wiper blades every six months. I've ignored the last 2 alerts because these were still like new and no streaks. Best of all, the rubber is replaceable at a very reasonable cost.

Denso (5305) IW16 Iridium Spark Plug, Pack of 1
Average Reviews:

This has the 0.4mm tip which Denso says to replace in 30,000 miles. I replaced the distributor cap, rotor and the plugs as I do each 10,000 miles. When I purchased them I assumed they would last 120,000 miles, but the ones that last that long have the 0.7mm tip. My 1994 4 cyl Toyota pickup runs better and idles more smoothly.
For the last 21 tanks of gas the average gas mileage was 19.819. With the Iridium plugs the mileage was 21.045. I normally use 89 octane on the next tank I will try 87 because I read the iridium reacts with the benzine for a better burn.
Based on the improvement above I would use 88.188 less gallons of gas over a 30,000 mile period which would save $238.11 based on gas at $2.70 a gallon.
The newer cars (my 2003 Corolla is an example) came with iridium plugs so I would think only the older cars would benefit from this upgrade.
I used Amsoil Performance Improver, the tank that ran the PI got 20.3 mpg, the last time I ran a tank of PI I got 17.5 mpg with regular Toyota plugs. I continue to get about 1.1 mpg better with these plugs.

Denso Iridium Spark Plug Denso's Iridium power spark plugs help your vehicle achieve unparalleled performance. It alters the belief that a mere spark plug can add power and mileage. This is done by combining an ultra-fine 0.4mm diameter Iridium center electrode with a tapered cut U-groove ground electrode. Iridium conducts electricity better than platinum, however what makes it exceptional is it's also 6x harder and 8x stronger than platinum. Because of this, the center electrode can be machined down to 0.4mm. This ultra-fine iridium center electrode provides superior ignition performance during acceleration and top cruising RPM. The U-groove ground electrode creates a larger, brighter flame kernel. The tip of the ground electrode has been tapered which further improves firing performance by reducing quenching. All of these features combine to give more horsepower to your motor. Technical Specifications - 14mm Thread, 19mm (3/4") Reach, 13/16" (20.6mm) Hex Size, Gasket Seat, Resistor, Removable Terminal, 0.4mm Iridium Projected Center Electrode, Tapered Cut U-groove Ground, .044" (1.1mm) Gap
