As of the date of this review ( Jan 2009 ) the page for this product shows a picture of the package of refills and a wiper blade holder. The ANCO N19 Narrow Wiper refills are (as I expected) a package of two wiper refills with no holder or wiper arm included. (A wiper refill is the narrow rubber blade that fits into brackets in the wiper holder.) The ANCO brand refills are made by Federal Mogul, a well known manufacturer of aftermarket automobile parts.
I am glad to have these refills since I have not found any brands in local automotive stores that fit my '90 Corolla. The situation with refills for '90 Corolla wipers is rather doofus. The Toyota dealer sells Toyota brand wiper refills at a reasonable price, but the refill is too flexible to use by itself. It is supposed to be used with two thin metal reinforcing bands not supplied with the wiper or sold separately. So the only way to get these strips is to take them from old wipers or have the dealer do the wiper refill installation. The ANCO N19 Wiper refills have a rigid plastic strip on the back of the rubber blade, which does away with the need for the metal bands. The refill is actually too long for the '90 Corolla, but it is easy to cut the refill to the proper length with a big pair of scissors. (An ANCO 18 inch refill would probably work and be less expensive.)
In the sunny dry climate of southern New Mexico, wiper refills usually wear out by due to weathering in the sun rather than being worn down. The rigid plastic strip often breaks. However, I have found that the ANCO brand refills last as long as any other brands.
Customers should not jump to the conclusion that this brand will work on all old '90 Corollas. On any old Toyota, a previous owner may have become fed up with the wiper refill situation and replaced the Toyota OEM wiper holders with aftermarket wiper holders that use a different type of refill. Or the brackets in the OEM wiper holder may have been bent to hold a different type of refill.
The instructions with the ANCO refills point out that the customer may need to bend the brackets to the proper shape. They emphasize that this must be done for "Audi,Saturn,Bosch". Presumably this refers to any wiper holder for Bosch brand refills. There is a metal clip on one end of the wiper that the instructions indicate may be moved to various locations on the refill, but I don't see any pre-punched indentations for the clip along the refill except the one that the clip comes in. The directions say to install the metal clip so it is in the bracket farthest from where the wiper arm pivots. On my car, I prefer to install it so it clips on to the bracket nearest where the arm pivots. Then I cut off the other end of the wiper to the proper length. Running the wipers should not scrape the wiper blade against the side or bottom trim on the windshield since this will will wear the blade out. If a blade (of proper length) does this, you should adjust the wiper arms. On my car you do this by prying off the cover on top of the pivot and loosening a bolt to reposition the wiper arm.
